“Little Paris” by Diallo Syli

photographs taken by Diallo Syli in Fria, Guinea spanning the years 1960 to 1970, the years immediately following Guinea’s independence in 1958. part of my practice has become cleaning, restoring, preserving, digitizing, and cataloging Diallo Syli’s archival collections to preserve and share his work that captures a history of francophone western Africa.

the collections contains medium-format (6x6cm) and 35mm negatives.

“I am a Black Feminist. I mean I recognize that my power as well as my primary oppressions come as a result of my blackness as well as my womaness, and therefore my struggles on both of these fronts are inseparable.” – Audre Lorde
